Celebrating creativity around the world, we sat down with Ibiza-based DJ and model, Cristina Tosio, to talk mixing, self-expression, her must-visit sites in Ibiza and, of course, her favorite Jimmy Lion designs.

Looking back, how did your career as an artist begin? And what projects are you working on now?

Back when modeling was still my main gig, I started DJing just for fun, but I’ve always followed the electronic music world, ever since I was a kid. Anyway, one thing led to another, and now these two worlds coexist, although my day-to-day revolves more around the musical side of things.

How do you express your creative side when you’re in the DJ box?

I love creating a musical journey, bringing the public with me, and connecting them with my music and to each other, all while disconnecting from everything else. I hope to bring people together in a state of euphoria with a clear before and after. I hope to inspire them, filling them with energy… or at least that’s what I try to do.

Was this self-expression really different when you primarily modeled?

Completely, but both are creative in their own way. When I’m doing editorial work, I jump into the role, creating my own movie in my head. But when you’re interacting with lots of other people around you (DJing), your creativity and your impact on others is much more powerful.

How have your creative process & ways of self-expression evolved? 

Over time you refine your tastes and you start to mix your feelings in. Then you share that with others and it’s really beautiful. Sometimes it’s more fun, others it’s more profound – it depends on the place, the audience and the occasion.

Did you end up in Ibiza because of its creative energy? What inspires you there?

Not exactly, but the sense of peace and the island’s energy definitely have a positive influence on my work. I love the island’s sense of calm, especially once peak season’s over and it’s more relaxed. I’m inspired by the nature here, driving through the mountains and landscapes with a smile, everything’s quiet… It all inspires me. It all feeds my creativity. 

Your Ibiza: What are your go-to spots for…?

• Swimming

Cala Pluma.

• The perfect sunset

Punta Galera.

• Lunch

Fish Shack, and I always take a dip from the rocks before while waiting for my table.

• Listening to music and dancing

It depends on the day, the mood, I can’t just name one.

Which Jimmy Lion designs do you feel are most you and why?

I especially love the Athletic-style socks with cool designs, but then the thick Winter socks are great too… And also the fine Women’s socks are amazing… I like them all! I’m a big fan of the collabs in general, especially Basquiat™, Keith Haring™, Looney Tunes™, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Gremlins™.
